It entered to service in 1961 with italian air force (AMI), and Luftwaffe in 1962 and alter with Portuguese air force.FIAT-Aeritalia,built 174 G-91 for AMI and 144 for Luftwaffe.A consortium named Flugzeug Union Sud,built other 294 airframes. The aircraft was also considered by United States Army as a FAC plane but the poor capability of the aircraft cut down any further order from Germany and other countries. A late twin engine variant was know as G-91Y.The pre-production machines go on to serve with the italian acrobatic team "Freccie Tricolori".The last G-91 was phased out and retired from AMI in 1995.
